Update June 2022- Taking a look at the Fort Davis Drug Store’s website, it looks like the hotel has had some updates since we visited. The ownership has also changed along with the restaurant’s menu.
After spending the first night of our Big Bend trip at Mountain Trails Lodge, we headed over to the Fort Davis Drug Store & Hotel for our second night.
The Hotel
Upon walking through the front doors, we found ourselves in the drug store and restaurant. To the left there is a fudge counter which is where we went to check in. The hotel is situated on the second floor and only has 6 rooms. As soon as we were checked in, we headed up the stairs to check out our room.
Each of the 6 rooms has a different theme and a different setup. We stayed in room #2, The Rancher. As you might imagine, this room is decorated with a ranch/cowboy vibe. There are a lot of cowboy and horse decor, a cowhide rug, and a unique metal windmill clock.
The Rancher has 2 queen beds with a nightstand in between. There is also an antique armoire, a chest with a TV on it, and a small table with 2 chairs.
The bathroom isn’t big, but it isn’t too small either. It is definitely bigger than the bathroom in the cabins the night before.
The other rooms in the hotel are The Stargazer, The Hummingbird, The Military Room, The Traveller, and The Sleeping Lion. There is also a lounge area. We didn’t go in, but I did take a picture.
The Drug Store & Restaurant
After checking out our room we headed back downstairs to have dinner. Connor and I ordered steak fingers. Connor had his with onion rings and I got sweet potato fries. JT ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with potato chips.
Once we were done with our dinner, we ordered ice cream sodas. The lady at the ice cream counter let the boys sample a few soda flavors before they made a decision. Their favorite ended up being the prickly pear. The prickly pear was good, but I thought it was pretty sweet. I ended up going with cherry. Cherry is typically my go to flavor. My mom ordered a root beer float.
Besides dinner, the restaurant also serves breakfast and lunch.
I love finding unique and historic hotels and we enjoyed our stay here.
