For day 2 of the Abilene CALF 2015, we started our day out at the Abilene Public Library. We took pictures with the Jack Frost sculpture outside the library and the Seymour sculpture, but the boys were most excited about the Minecraft creeper we found inside the library.
After the reading at the library, we headed towards the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature (NCCIL). Outside the NCCIL was the bubble man, so the boys stopped to play with bubbles for a little bit before we went in for the reading and book signing by the featured author/illustrator, David Shannon. We also found a pirate and a parrot outside the NCCIL.
The bubble man was still outside when we were done in the NCCIL and we hung out a few minutes to watch.
Next we headed back over to where Kornpop’s balloon show was to take pictures of some more of the balloon sculptures.
We made it to two more readings before lunch. We ran into Fergus the puppy again before the reading of A Bad Case of Stripes at the Grace Museum. This book ended up being JT’s favorite.
The second reading was at The Center for Contemporary Arts. This one is always my favorite. I love how they decorate the room for the reading. I can never manage to get good pictures though. The book at The Center was Jangles: A Big Fish Story.
We ate lunch at the Cypress Street Grill and the boys got the cure for a bad case of the stripes.
After lunch we went to Frontier Texas! for the petting zoo. The boys loved petting the bunnies!
Our last CALF activities of the day were the character meet and greet and the magic show. We also received the last button for our lanyards and took one last sculpture picture.
Have you ever read any David Shannon books? What’s your favorite?
