We took our first cruise ever on the Disney Dream in March. It was a 3 night cruise that went to Nassau and Castaway Cay.
We stayed in Gainesville, FL the night before so we had about a 2 1/2 hour drive to get to the terminal. Our port arrival time was 12:15pm-12:30pm and I think we ended up getting there exactly at 12:15pm. We dropped off our luggage and then went to park in the garage. The porter told me that we might want to park on the 3rd level of the garage and take the walkway across so that’s what we did.
After getting through security, we went to check in. Goofy was meeting with people but by the time we were done checking in (which only took about 5 minutes-10 minutes), it was Captain Mickey that was meeting. We took pictures with him, then the boys got their magic bands for the kid’s club, and then we headed through the Mickey ears and on to the ship.
Once we got on the ship we checked out our room and then went up to Cabanas for some lunch. Once we were done eating we headed to the Oceaneer’s Club and Oceaneer’s Lab for open house. We also went to check out the tween club, Edge. During open house hours everyone is allowed to check out what the different kid’s clubs have to offer. Parents are even able to join in on the games.
After that, it was time for the mandatory emergency drill. This took about 15 minutes. When that was over it was time to sail away!
We went straight from the drill to the Sailing Away Party but it was already packed when we got there. We watched the stage show and then watched the boat sail away for a few minutes before deciding it was time for a snack.
This time we got a snack from Flo’s V8 Café. We waited a few minutes for more fries to be made at Tow Mater Grill. Since they were so fresh they were super yummy!
It was during this time that motion sickness started to hit. I started to feel dizzy and then so did the boys. It wasn’t too bad at first but once we finished our snack we went down to wait for the gift shops to open and the boys really started to feel the dizziness. They took some kids Dramamine that we had brought with us. I decided to go ahead and take some too. Once the gift shop opened they decided to buy Sea-Bands to wear also.
Once we were done at the gift shop it was time for us head over to the Walt Disney Theatre for The Golden Mickeys. I loved this show! It was fantastic!
After the show, we went to see Pluto. We took pictures and the boys got their first autograph in their autograph books. Then we hung out for a bit before heading over to Animator’s Palate for dinner.
Dinner at Animator’s Palate was so much fun! I loved the animation and Finding Nemo theme.
We had joined a kid’s Fish Extender group, so after dinner we went back up to our room to get our fish extender gifts ready and then went to distribute them.
There was one more thing we still had to do that night, watch Captain Marvel. This was the premEAR of Captain Marvel and it was at 11pm. The boys really wanted to go to the premier and the other times didn’t really work into our schedule well. This meant that we didn’t get to bed until 2-2:30am.
After a fun and exciting tide pool walk on Cabrillo Beach, we explored the aquarium that led the walk- the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium (CMA). CMA isn’t particularly big but there{...}
During a trip to Amarillo we spent some time finding American Quarter Horses. Amarillo is home to over 100 horse statues that are part of their Hoof Prints of the{...}

Sounds like such an amazing first day at sea! I have been on a cruise before but not with Disney (with Carnival). I’ve always wanted to go on a Disney cruise!! Mostly because I’m just a huge Disney lover!!
Sorry to hear about the sea sickness. I would only get it at night before going to bed so I didn’t take anything for it. Did the sea bands work?
This looks amazing! I have been to Disney many times and really considering a cruise with my three boys. They are older (maybe too old??) but love seeing how a cruise pans out – can’t wait to read about more days!

Yes, the boys said the Sea-Bands worked really well!
How fun! I can’t wait to take a Disney Cruise. Looks like you guys had a blast…after you got over the motion sickness. 🙂
I wasn’t expecting motion sickness but it was still really fun. I’m sure you’ll have lot of fun when you get to take one!

How old are they? I don’t think anybody can be too old to have fun on a Disney cruise.
What a dream trip, I hope to go on a Disney Cruise someday!
What a great first day! I have always wanted to go on a Disney Cruise – I’m sure it will happen soon!
