UGLYDOLLS Movie Review

We were invited to an advanced screening of UGLYDOLLS yesterday evening. This new animated musical adventure from STXfilms stars Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Blake Shelton, and Pitbull among others.

The movie starts out in the adorable and fun town of Uglyville. We meet Moxy and friends as they prepare for the arrival of a new UglyDoll. From the beginning, the movie starts out upbeat and energetic with plenty of music.

Although Uglyville is full of fun and friendship, Moxy hopes for the day when she will be paired with a kid. The other UglyDolls think that the big city and kids are just a myth but Moxy refuses to give up and finally decides to do something to make her dream come true. She ends up leading several of her friends, UglyDog, Lucky Bat, Babo, and Wage, on an adventure outside of Uglyville to the town of Perfection. Here they encounter the movie’s villain, Lou.

Just like the town of Uglyville, UGLYDOLLS is fun and upbeat. Moxy and the other UglyDolls are adorable. I love Moxy’s optimistic personality. The boys’ favorites are UglyDog and Lucky Bat, along with Gibberish Cat and the Pegasus Unicorn. I think he said he was a Pegacorn but I’m not positive.

Besides being a fun movie, UGLYDOLLS has a great message. One of my favorite lines from Moxy is “It’s not what you see, it’s what I see”. UGLYDOLLS embraces uniqueness and shows us that what really matters is friendship, love, and compassion. We shouldn’t strive to be what others want us to be. What matters is what we see.

UGLYDOLLS is perfect for the whole family to watch. The movie comes out in theaters tomorrow, May 3rd, so make sure to get tickets to this heartwarming, funny, and energetic movie.
