Robot Mania at the Science Mill

We decided to head over to the Science Mill in Johnson City during spring break for Robot Mania. We’ve been to the Science Mill before but never during one of their themed days. The boys started off with the robot activities and then did some of the other activities as well.

They started off with some robot battling. First they battled with flip bots and had to try to flip each other over. After playing with the flip bots, they did a pig race. They had to maneuver their pigs through a maze to pick up a block and then take it back to the start. They also had Ozobots to play with but we have one at home so they decided to skip that.

Next up we went to what ended being my favorite activity, the WatercolorBot. This was a really cool program. The boys used the RoboPaint program to paint a picture on a laptop and then the WatercolorBot painted it on a sheet of paper.

The next robot activity the boys did was outside. It was a ball throwing game with a robot that waved its hand up and down to try to block the ball. While outside they also enjoyed playing Tug-of-War with the giant lever.

Their favorite outside activity was watching the African Spurred Tortoises, Speedy and Tortilla.

The last robot themed activity the boys did was a coding activity with some critter bots. They each picked one of the critter bots to code movements for.

Besides the Robot Mania activities, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy. The boys’ favorite area is the BioLab. There are microscopes to look through, a 3D activity, a few fish, and our favorite, the Axolotl or Mexican Salamander.

Here is the Axolotl! We think he’s cute. I think they said this one is the baby and his name is Axl Rose.

Other favorite activities were an energy game, the sand topography table, and mindball.

The boys also enjoyed building different circuits, experimenting with wind, and checking out the paludarium and fractalarium. Connor also tried a DNA activity but we needed better instructions because we weren’t too sure exactly what to do.

The Science Mill is filled with hands-on activities. There were a few other exhibits that we missed that day, but the boys mainly wanted to check out all of the Robot Mania activities and we did them all.

Have you ever been to the Science Mill? What are your favorite exhibits?
