This past Saturday we went to the grand opening of the new Family Adventure Garden at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. It’s apparently been awhile since we’ve been to the garden because they had a whole new entrance as well.
The Family Adventure Garden is 2.5 acres and has different themed areas for kids and families to play and explore. After setting off through the Adventure Gateway, the boys did a quick scavenger hunt and then we headed straight for Dry Rock Creek. I’m pretty sure that this was the boys’ favorite section.
They really enjoyed exploring this area and were determined to make a house with the sticks. After Dry Rock Creek, we took a walk past Retama Recharge, No Name Creek, Limestone Ledge, and Thunder Ridge. No Name Creek runs alongside Limestone Ledge and kids and families are able to splash and play in the creek.
As we neared the end of the creek, we found stairs leading up to Prickly Pear Peak. Prickly Pear Peak offers a nice view of the garden. Texas Parks and Wildlife had a table set up at the top of the peak when we were there. The boys enjoyed looking at the various animal furs and skulls.
Once we left Prickly Pear Peak, we took a walk down Huisache Way. The boys stopped to use the nature looms and we discovered some cute playhouses and a stage for kids to put on shows.
The last area we stopped at was Tumble Hill. The boys rolled down a few times before we made our way out of the garden.
If you’re looking for a nice place to get outside and run and explore, consider coming to the San Antonio Botanical Garden and checking out the new Family Adventure Garden.
