A Piece of Sky is a fractured retelling of the story of Chicken Little by Ann Hunter. It is book 4 in the Crowns of the Twelve series.
I really enjoy fairy tales and fractured fairy tales so I was excited to read A Piece of Sky. Although this is book 4 in the Crowns of the Twelve series it can be read as a stand alone book.
A Piece of Sky is a very well written story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and noticed from the beginning that the writing was far more eloquent than other books we’ve been reading. I thought that the reader did a great job, especially with the imagery. The story pulled you in and I found it great from the very beginning.
The story switched back and forth on perspectives but was very easy to follow and the chapters flowed nicely. I found the story itself to be very unexpected, especially the ending. It had the elements of the Chicken Little tale that we are familiar with- a chicken that thinks she’s been hit by the sky, an acorn, and even briefly a fox but it was completely different than I could have ever imagined.
Not only is this a fun story to read but it also reminds us that no one is ever to small to make a difference; we should all choose to be the sky.
