Hello Bali by Giselle Shardlow is a book that incorporate yoga poses for kids. The bright colorful illustrations take kids on a journey through Bali. The book is recommended for ages 2-5 but Connor (7) actually enjoyed the book more than JT (5). He enjoyed doing the poses. His favorites were the warrior poses.
JT looked at the pictures and did a few of the poses but he mostly just wanted to be the one taking the pictures. He says that his favorite was the triangle pose because it’s more difficult.
The author did a good job matching up the poses with the different things seen on the island.
What we like most about this book is that it also teaches you a little bit of Indonesian. At the end of the book are some basic Indonesian phrases and numbers.
I would recommend this book for anyone that wants to introduce their kids to yoga or Bali. The simplicity of the book does make it more appropriate for younger kids however I think if you have a slightly older child that’s really interested in other languages or cultures like Connor is then this could be a good introduction.
