My Review:
When I first saw the dragon on the cover and read the description of Four Fiends I knew I wanted to review it and I thought that it would be just the type of book Connor would love as well.
I thought that the beginning chapters of the book had a really interesting set up. Each chapter was about one of the kids finding their worm but each chapter took you beyond what happened in the previous chapter. I know that it may seem like I’m describing normal story progression but it’s difficult for me to explain. I can give an example though. The first chapter ends with Jinjing seeing a white light and in the second chapter we learn that the light Pietro sees is a small worm. So by finding out what happened to one of the kids we know what happened to the one in the previous chapter. I thought this was an interesting and clever way to present the story.
What I really enjoyed most about Four Fiends was that it brought together mythology from different countries. I am a big fan of mythology so this really appealed to me. I am most familiar with Greek mythology and I was excited to find out that it was at the end of the story but I enjoyed reading about the others as well.
I would say that this book is good for ages 7 and up since Connor is 7. I’m not sure that he would have sat through a chapter book when he was 6. The story is easy to follow along with and the progression will be familiar since each fiend is given the same number of chapters.
Another great thing about this book is that Connor was excited to read it at any time of the day. He usually only wants to read during the evening. There are also many activities that I think we could tie in with this book so make sure to come back to read about them.
Connor says:
I really really like the book. I would like to read this first one all the way to the last book. Subaru was my favorite character. My favorite fiend was the Nian and my favorite guardian was the green dragon because dragons are my favorite.
I liked the part where Bo said “pick up your socks” because Bo is funny. I like the Vermillion Bird because it reminds me of Sunburn the Skylander. I also liked the Jersey Devil because he was a protector and I would like to be a protector of something too.
The picture on the front of the book is cool. I like the yellow dragon sitting on the hill. Other kids should read this book because there’s stuff in it that’s make believe but really really cool.

Well, I think Connor sums it up pretty well! Great review Connor, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us. And thanks to your Mom too – I’m so glad you both enjoyed the book (mythology is pretty cool, as far as I’m concerned!) Thanks for joining us in the Four Fiends Blog Tour!
Thanks guys! I’m glad both of you enjoyed the book! Connor, the sequel (called THREE TREASURES) will be published this fall, so I will let you know when you can read it! 😀 That book will have Japanese, Jamaican, Indian, Bhutanese and Arabic mythology 😀
Connor says that he’s excited to read to the second book. It sounds great!
