Golden Dragon Water Puppets

The 2016 Children’s International Puppet Festival starts this week here in San Antonio, so I wanted to share our experience at last year’s festival. We were only able to attend one show but we loved it and I wish we had been able to attend more.

The show we attended last year was the Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theatre of Saigon. This was a really fun and unique puppet show. We had never seen water puppets before.

The stage was a pool of water and all the puppets swam around in the water or rode on boats. All the performers were from Saigon, Vietnam and so everything was in Vietnamese. I think we were given an explanation of what was going to be happening before hand. We also had a program of what each scene was.

The show included the dragons, birds, fisherman, and rice farmers.

This was such a cool puppet show and we all really loved it. If you have a chance to watch one of these water puppet shows I highly recommend it.
